While the text has a number of examples from the oil and gas and mining industry, it contains a number of generic scenarios that make it applicable for students in all engineering disciplines as well as those involved in geology, geophysics, business, accounting, finance, management, operations research and virtually anyone interested in economic evaluation issues. Problems at the end of each chapter provide the reader with a comprehensive approach to evaluating economic alternatives.

Franklin J. Stermole, B.S., M.S., Ph.D., Chemical Engineering, Iowa State University, is Professor Emeritus of Mineral Economics and Chemical and Petroleum Refining at Colorado School of Mines, where he has taught since 1963. John M Stermole, B.S.B.A., Finance, University of Denver and M.S., Mineral Economics, Colorado School of Mines. John has taught as a Lecturer at Colorado School of Mines for the Departments of Mineral Economics and Chemical Engineering since 1988 and as an Adjunct Professor at The University of Denver, College of Law in the Natural Resources and Environmental Law Program. John served as a Fellow to the Institute for Global Resources Policy at Colorado School of Mines and co-authored the 1st Edition of the Global Mining Taxation Comparative Study. Combined, both authors have presented more than 850 Economic Evaluation short courses to more than 18,500 people from mineral, petroleum, and non-mineral companies and government agencies all over the world.

I was required to use the 13th edition for class in college. I bought the 10th edition. They match word-for-word, no difference whatsoever. The book itself is just okay. It explains the concepts quite decently.

Economic Evaluation Classic

This is a well thought out, logically presented book for the economic modeller. It has a mining or petroleum economic emphasis, but the concepts are applicable to any field. It contains many examples and a lot of specific information about different types of analysis and when to use them. It focuses mainly on deterministic, individual project analysis, with little mention madeo fprobabilistic or portfolio analysis.

It is a real practitioner's handbook.

About the Author
Sarah Grison is an Associate Professor of Psychology at Parkland College. She brings 20 years of psychology teaching experience to Psychology in Your Life. Sarah’s research examines how psychological research can be applied to teaching and learning. She teaches introductory psychology regularly and puts her laboratory and classroom research into practice to improve student learning and actively engage students in large lectures. She has created and taught courses to support novice teachers in developing their skills. Sarah is a certified Teacher-Scholar who previously was recognized each year on the University of Illinois List of Excellent Teachers. She has won the University of Illinois Provost’s Initiative for Teaching Advancement Award and the Association for Psychological Science Award for Teaching and Public Understanding of Psychological Science. She is a member of the Association for Psychological Science; the American Educational Research Association; the International Mind, Brain, and Education Society; and the American Psychological Association (Division 2, Society for Teaching of Psychology).

Todd F. Heatherton is the Lincoln Filene Professor in Human Relations in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at Dartmouth College. He teaches introductory psychology every year. His recent research takes a social brain sciences approach, which combines theories and methods of evolutionary psychology, social cognition, and cognitive neuroscience to examine the neural underpinnings of social behavior.

Michael S. Gazzaniga is Distinguished Professor and Director of the Sage Center for the Study of the Mind at the University of California, Santa Barbara. In his career, he has introduced thousands of students to psychology and cognitive neuroscience.

French Beyond the Basics

I rate this book Excellent! The dialogs are well written, the audio sounds quite natural, the cultural context is provided, the grammar is well explained, the exercises are useful. I highly recommend it. A little drawback: it is a paperback and it falls apart before you master the content. I am on my third copy. If you start from nothing, however, I think it will be necessary to study the Basics before this book.

This book is a continuation (Part 4) of Gina Wilkins' "Family Found" series. Dana's Grandmother, Granny Fran, continues to play matchmaker to great success. A delightful read!

Off Wilkins' backlist (1996), newly digitalized. This is evidently part of her Family Found series, but you only get a sense of that in the Epilogue.

Common plot in the Category Romance world, a couple pretending to be engaged, then discovering that they really love each other. But this is a melancholy story, because the reason is sad and the author doesn't stint on the day-to-day emotional reality of it. However, the heroine's personality tends to serious anyway, which drags it down further. The hero is supposed to appear as lighthearted (covering pained depths, of course), but that humor presents with all the subtlety of an elementary school yard* so I found it hard to smile.

* Flushing the toilet while someone is in the shower - Really? (This was actually the heroine, trying to revive his joie de vivre, but you get the idea).

I commend Wilkins for the history she gives the hero, without caving to the usual Category premise that he is covering for someone else. Although it's questionable how healthy the situation really is, when denial on his side seems high. He still thinks nobody knows? I know this is a little cryptic, but since the reader doesn't find out details until the end, I cannot fairly say more.

This was not a favorite of mine, but that is more about personal preference; I enjoy Wilkins' medical books greatly. If you are in the mood for a more somber romance, this should suit.
